“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day…”
We have all heard it before, yet there are still so many of us who don’t eat a proper breakfast.
I would have to say, the best breakfast-eater I know is my dad. After he’s taken Franklin (our dog) for a walk at 5am, he’ll have a whole 6 course meal. This would usually include (wheat-free, despite the fact that he still eats bread – which has wheat!) ProNutro, yogurt, fruit, probably some seeds and nuts and pretty much anything else in the pantry. Of course, Franklin gets his own bowl of ProNutro too.
Now, I am not implying that everyone should take this approach to breakfast. I am a firm believer that if you eat a healthy, filling breakfast it will not only give you more energy for the day ahead, but also help you decrease your cravings for sugar later in the day.
In the mornings I usually have my GF oats with peanut butter, chia seeds, cinnamon and a banana but this morning I decided I was in the mood for something a bit more refreshing!
Smoothie bowls (or Açaí bowls) have become extremely popular over the past year. I envy all the people I follow on Instagram who have nearby restaurants dedicated to creating such delicious, healthy foods. Essentially, a smoothie bowl is created by making a very thick smoothie and then adding toppings of your choice!
Here is the recipe for my Berry Smoothie Bowl:
You will need:
- 1 cup double cream yogurt
- 1 cup frozen fruit (mine had raspberries, pineapple, papaya and melon)
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 cup ice
- 1/2 avocado (or a banana if you don’t have avocado – this is mainly for texture)
Toppings:
- Toasted coconut
- Dry roasted sunflower seeds
- Ground flax seed
- Raspberries
- Anything you like!
Place all of your ingredients into your Thermomix (or blender) and crush on speed 9 for 30 seconds. If the mixture is too icy – add more avocado or banana. If the mixture is too runny – add more ice and blend again.
Place your mixture into a bowl and then add your toppings!
Devour it straight away! Let me know if you give it a go 😀 xx
Amazing Site. Very much enjoyed reading.
