20 one.

I had the best birthday last week.

Yes, I got spoiled rotten, I ate some incredibly good food and I even got a whole new do.

It was on Thursday, and it started with me being woken up by my brother and sister to the most horrendous “happy birthday” song. My sister had baked me the most delicious looking GF cupcakes with macaroons with my favourite ‘love buns’ icing by Nigella Lawson.

I then got dressed and my mum took me out for breakfast. I had a GF waffle with berry compote and mascarpone. It was absolutely delicious! I love going to Deer Park Cafe because it is extremely close to where I live and they use really good quality products in their food.

I then rushed home, Donata hopped into my car and we were off to the hairdresser! I’ve been wanting to dye my hair for many years. The first time round never went according to plan. I landed up with hair that wasn’t the colour I wanted. I am so happy that I decided to give it another shot! I had my hair done at ReDrum Culture Club in Woodstock. It has an awesome vibe – I couldn’t stop looking at the awesome flamingo statue and old style barber chairs. It took about 4 and a half hours to cut, dye and style my hair. I never got to see what it looked like until the big reveal at the end. I was totally shocked! I have never had such short, light hair – and I love it!

Watch how I became a blonde here:

That evening we headed off to La Mouette for a 6 course meal.

It.

Was.

Amazing!

They even prepared a GF version especially for me!

It started with one-of-a-kind onion soup, a goats curd salad with tomato jelly, tarttiflette with crispy ham hock, perfect pork belly that just tore apart, line fish and then best of all: melting Ferrero Rocher (“Salted Hazelnut oil parfait, praline cremeux and chocolate sauce”). They literally poured chocolate over the chocolate dessert. AND, because it was my birthday – I got another dessert which had caramel and honeycomb – which was also to-die-for.

These photos do not do the food justice – I was so sad that I forgot my camera at home. Guess I’ll have to go again!

This was definitely a birthday I will remember! xx

  1. Hey, you are also gluten-free? Celiac or just healthy choice? 🙂 Anyways, I like to check out places that people pre-tested, so I’ll write yours up. Happy birthday, and the color looks lovely on you 🙂
