long street has a long history.

By night, a street full of lights. By day, a street full of stalls. It’s the street that never sleeps.

If you come to Cape Town and you want to shop throughout the day and party all night long – Long Street is the place to be.

(If you don’t wanna ready my babble… skip to the bottom to find out where you can get this look!)

The street is located in the City Bowl and is known for it’s many stalls, pubs and clubs that run along the one-way. These stalls are made up of vintage clothing shops, book stores, clubs, backpackers, ethnic restaurants and hidden coffee shops. The street celebrates many cultures and is constantly filled with tourists from all over the world.

The street is filled with Victorian style buildings with wrought iron balconies – some buildings dating back to the 1800’s. One can get the best view of this from BEERHOUSE at night. The MyCiTi bus goes all the way up Long Street, stopping 5 times along the the 20 blocks that make up the street – perfect for the lazy tourist.

If you’re visiting Cape Town, these would be some of my recommendations for you to visit on Long Street:

  1. Brownies & downieS Cape Town: it “is a training centre for people with intellectual disabilities and a vessel to create change and acceptance in the South African culture. Special needs young adults are trained to be employable in the hospitality, service and retail sectors. This is achieved in a coffee shop and lunchroom that is open to the general public.”
  2. BEERHOUSE: “We see ourselves as a hub for all things beer, and we strive to incubate the ideals of craft while supporting local micro-breweries and giving them a podium to shine on and to deliver their qualities to the world.”
  3. 169 on Long: “With a restaurant, cigar lounge, cocktail bar and club , there’s enough variety to keep you confined in the place. The place boasts a great playlist of  jazz and R&B to complement those sundowners.”
  4. Neighbourhood Restaurant, Bar & Lounge: “It’s a spacious venue but the layout, with a number of inter-leading rooms, lends a feeling of intimacy, and the balcony is always packed even on a so-called quiet night. There’s great food to be had: burgers, chicken wings, nachos, chilli poppers, pastas and waffles. To accompany it, sample from one of the largest selections of local and imported bottled beers. This is the perfect place to begin your Long Street pub crawl.”

There’s so much to do – you’ll have to come and experience it for yourself!
