If there was ever a time to be alive – it’s now.
With so many delicious creations and flavours to experience; I couldn’t imagine living in a time where culinary masterpieces were not available.
The meal or rather, the experience, I had at Hotel Okura‘s two-Michelin-star restaurant is one that I will never forget. When I say that it is something you have to experience for yourself – I mean it.
Read more about the Hotel Okura here.
This post will be filled with pictures as I feel that is the best way for you to try and comprehend the art I consumed. Perhaps, it will inspire you to experience Chefs Onno Kokmeijer’s and Arjan Speelman’s two Michelin-starred kitchen yourself!
We started our food journey with their signature cocktail. It arrived in a pineapple jug along with a few bite-sized creations.
We were freaking out. Where else would I find a golden cashew? Not only is it a golden cashew… but it’s a golden cashew on a fancy croquette.
The restaurant is located on the 23rd floor of the Hotel Okura – providing your eyes with a breath-taking view of Amsterdam. I honestly had no idea what to expect as I walked through the restaurants doors – and I loved that. It was a night of discovery!
What I loved most about my experience at the restaurant was how relaxed it was. I didn’t feel the need to make sure I was sitting up straight or trying to hide my growing belly (a food baby, not a real one.)
My first caviar experience! The worlds most expensive, naturally.
(I was freaking out.)
Our waiter was incredibly friendly ad even brought out the wagyu cut so that I could see the incredible marbling piece of meat.
Wagyu is beef from one of four different types of Japanese cows. “Wagyu cattle’s genetic predisposition yields a beef that contains a higher percentage of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids than typical beef. The increased marbling also increases the ratio of monounsaturated fats to saturated fats.”
And as the sun set, my favourite part of the meal began!
The dessert above was particularly fun! You had to roll the dessert like a cigarette and then bite into it to experience all of the wonderful flavours!
This may sound crazy – but the bite sized lemon meringue above was my favourite part of the meal. If you follow me on Instagram – you would have noticed my love of all things sour – and lemon meringue is my absolute favourite dessert! It had a thin pastry and a sour curd… my mouth is watering just thinking of it!
Restaurants like Ciel Bleu are rare. The food, staff, wine and setting were all beyond perfect.

Thank you for a wonderful evening!
