Happy Monday everyone!

Today I bring you some outfit inspiration with a swing dress! These dresses were worn to dance swing – a style of dance that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s to 1950s.

The swing dress is usually at knee-length, is fitted at the waist and then flares so that as the dancer spins and swings – so would the dress. During the 1940s, the swing dress was designed with less fabric because of the fabric rationing but by the time the 1950s came, skirts grew in size to reflect the ‘fit and flare’ fashion at the time.

I absolutely love this dress. It’s incredibly comfortable but still makes a statement. I decided to dress it up a bit with my awesome blue heels but you could pop on some sandals or some bobby socks and flatter shoes for a more vintage look and you’re ready for a casual meander in town.

Swing dresses are definitely the way to go when the sun is out but there’s still a slight breeze. The amount of times that I have made the mistake of wearing a short dress in the windy city (Cape Town) on a windy day. I have spent way too many hours of my life holding my dress down to avoid flashing everybody and so the solution for me has been to invest in some pretty mid and full-length dresses. (Although, I do still love a good mini)
